On October 5, 2017, Friedrich Ebert Foundation (FES) Moldova in partnership with National Confederation of the Trade Unions of Moldova organized a round table with the topic: “Reform of the pension system in the Republic of Moldova: recommendations for improvement of the legal framework”.
At the debates, the experts presented the main positive changes of the reform, among which, introduction of a new pension calculation formula that allows an increase of the economic support ratio, introduction of the early retirement possibility, new indexation formula and others.
While welcoming the new changes, the experts pointed out, the new law on pension is still not satisfactory for many employees and future pensioners. There are still a handful of drawbacks such as discrimination of certain categories of employees and pensioners, withdrawal of benefits for employees of jobs with harsh and dangerous conditions, several disadvantages for women comparing to men at retirement, discriminatory provisions for mothers with many children and others.
